The 11th edition of Helsinki Design Week is from the 3rd until the 13th of September 2015. During this week, design dominates the Finnish capital, expressing this year’s theme ‘Time Machine’. Our agency’s Managing Director Jeroen Verbrugge gives a lecture for international design professionals on his vision on the changing landscape for designers.
Founded in 2005, Helsinki Design Week is an event held annually in September. This year’s theme was ‘Time Machine’. The multidisciplinary festival presents design from a number of fields including fashion, architecture and urban culture. From September 3rd – 13th the Finnish capital is the place to be for design lovers. The program contains 200 events, targeted at both professionals as well as the general public. The festival’s organisation asked our Managing Director Jeroen Verbrugge to be their international keynote speaker.
On Thursday September 10th he enlightens the audience of design professionals on his inspiring vision on the future of design.
“The Dutch obstinate, free thinking culture definitely allows creativity to flourish. During the last few years our creatives encountered a number of tough, drastic changes. Designers involved in socially significant projects are increasing, replacing those who still focus on just designing objects”, according to Jeroen. The traditional design process should be questioned and challenged. Design is no longer a sequential process but rather ‘cha-ordic’, referring to Jeroen’s dissertation “Creative Reflexion”. The third major change will be the upcoming ‘smart products’, forcing designers to develop other skills and knowledge. Jeroen : ”Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to have tried. Have fun!”
