For Dutch company Ultimaker we developed a suitable packaging for their latest 3D Printer. The Ultimaker to Go is a compact 3D printer, easy to take along. Our team therefore developed a lightweight packaging with a strap, that’s easy to open and has a designated place for the machine’s loose components.
Dutch company Ultimaker introduces the Ultimaker to Go, a compact 3D printer that is easy to take along. It is in essence a smaller version of the popular Ultimaker 2 and made to print somewhat smaller objects, yet it has the same accuracy and reliability of its larger sibling. We developed the packaging for the Ultimaker to Go and deliberately choose to use EPP; a plastic foam material made of polypropylene. This material is lightweight, shock resistant and easy to recycle, therefore eco-friendly.
Thanks to the strap that’s part of the system, the printer is great for makers on the go. In order to use the printer, you unlace the strap, lift the upper part of the packaging and you are immediately face to face with this ‘mighty mini 3D printer’. The loose components are neatly stowed away, which makes this machine ready for use very quickly.
Previously our team designed the new Ultimaker 2 packaging. We replaced the multitude of cardboard pieces of the original packaging, by only a few EPS parts, in which all the machine’s components are easily found. A new user-friendly packaging, with considerably less waste.
3D printing is popular these days. This relatively new technique is being used more and more for education, in the design industry, fashion and the medical world. Nowadays Dutch supplier Ultimaker has three different types of 3D printers for quick, high quality print jobs: the Ultimaker 2 Extended, the Ultimaker 2 and the new Ultimaker to Go.
