Based on our strategy’s three cornerstones – Integrated Packaging Design, Smart Connected Products and Design Thinking – and, zooming in on our future, we searched for new talent to join our team. We are delighted to introduce Phil, who was added to our FLEX team lately.
What can you tell us about your background?
As an industrial design engineer, I have worked in various roles in a large variety of companies. I have an all-round background, and I love discovering unknown territories and face new challenges. My experience includes managing the construction of large scale wind farms for Nuon, designing travel accessories at Suitsupply, engineering new strollers and suitcases at Bugaboo and co-designing/engineering consumer electronics as a freelancer.
Why did you pick this field as a career?
From as early as I can remember I joined my dad on his architect drawing table, making drawings and creations. It became my passion identifying problems/opportunities and transforming them into feasible products. Just making life a little better, easier or just making things make more sense. Something you can touch, experience, preferably not only digital. Whether it’s a tea bag holder or a tree house did not matter. So IDE in Delft was the perfect match for me. During my studies, it became apparent that I was quite good at project management. In my earlier career, I deep dived into project management to master these skills.
Why did you choose FLEX?
Already for quite some years, I was interested in the innovative and widely established product portfolio of Flex. I wanted to be part of it. I was offered the opportunity to work as an engineer, product manager, and designer, focusing on IoT products, packaging and design thinking all at the same time: bullseye. Besides, I had an excellent click with the guys and girls at Flex. Very sociable, friendly, with a positive can-do attitude.

What’s the primary value you would like to bring our clients?
I will deliver a thorough analysis (asking the questions behind the questions), steady design process and involve the clients as much as possible in the shared journey to innovation. As a result, I aim to come with fresh, yet feasible ideas.
What’s your focus in life and what do you like to do outside of work?
I focus on the quality of life, either in work or private. I am very active with sports (triathlons), cooking, meeting up with friends and refurbishing my house. I try to balance this every now and then with some meditation and relaxing in the dunes with my girlfriend. I love to be outside and see as much as possible from this earth.
