Hard work and a lot of fun

We love to meet talented people to join our team.

Senior ‘old school’ Mechanical Engineer (m/f) 1fte

We are looking for candidates with 20 years of relevant (agency-) experience or more. A super-senior, brilliant and enthusiastic mechanical engineer to join us in realising ground breaking innovations.

We are renowned for our innovative, original and surprising solutions. We give shape and technical solutions to the ideas and desires of our clients, varying from start-ups to large multinationals. Our focal points are Smart Products, Integrated Packaging and Design Thinking; making products, in which technological advancement goes hand-in-hand with brand-enhancing and user-centred design. We are characterised by and open office culture and a flat organisation.

Specifically our highly technological and vastly mechanically orientated projects are full of challenges in the field of engineering and mechatronics. Challenges that we solve carefully, creatively and technically sound. To enforce our team in this field, we are looking for a ‘classical’ mechanical engineer with analytical depth and talents and a hands-on mentality.

What will you be doing?
At our studio, you will be part of our multi-disciplinary team of industrial designers, mechanical engineers, UX-designers, strategists, prototypers and project managers and you will be linked with a wide network of specialists. You will help creating surprising product innovations from your mechanical engineering perspective. Clients and colleagues will turn to you for a sharp, technical view on a variety of design challenges. You will make thorough analysis and develop a clear understanding of the core of the problem. You will use both classical mechanics and dynamics knowledge, as well as aids like SolidWorks, Creo and ANSYS to do so, and come up with a variety of creative technical solutions and support these with calculations to get to grips with the essential characteristics.

When developing ground breaking product innovations, you will take into account a variety of demands, such as cost-consequences of your choices, legal requirements and norms, weight-reduction, ease of use, aesthetics, modularity, performance and development budgets. It will be your job to support the team from an engineeringpoint of view to get to beautiful, elegant solutions.

Does the following profile suit you:

  • at least 20 years of experience in developing mechanical and technical engineering solutions;
  • HBO, WO Bachelor or Master Mechanical Engineering (ME), Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering;
  • proficient with FEA, statics and dynamics calculations in strength, stress, deformation, pressure, etc. to validate and optimise design;
  • broadly oriented knowledge of manufacturing techniques, materials and the reality of procurement and production;
  • good understanding of tolerances, and its consequences for function and production;
  • experienced with mechanics and mechatronics, and able to make the right decision in technical solutions and components;
  • proficient with SolidWorks, CREO, ANSYS;
  • structured thinker on risk and effect analysis, quality control and FMEA;
  • analytical yet creative thinker, with excellent technical insight and inventive spirit;
  • specific, pragmatic and goal oriented documenting skills;
  • able to develop ideas and solutions based on limited input and information;
    technically curious and willing to keep up to date on new technologies, materials and manufacturing methods;
  • likes to work on a multitude of projects with a flexible attitude.

Does all of this inspire and entice you and do you think your seniority can support our team? Please send us your motivation, a resume and some relevant examples of your work to: c.blankestijn@flex.nl attn. Christa Blankestijn.

Internship Industrial Design

We offer internships for talented design students who want to experience our design world and who strengthen our design studio with a positive, pro-active working attitude. During your internship period, you will be an integral member of one of our multi-disciplinary teams, located at our design studio in Delft. You will get the chance to work in an inspiring and professional environment and learn about various aspects of the design process, such as research, concept generation, CAD modeling, visualizations, prototyping and presentation techniques.

Send your portfolio preferably as a link to your website, or attached to your e-mail in PDF format, max 6 MB. Because we’re interested in your design skills, applications without portfolio cannot be processed. An internship at our design studio generally takes 5-6 months. We have two main internship periods per year; starting around August/September and February/March.

We want to support design students by offering internships in a professional environment. Moreover, we think graduates deserve a paid-to-level job in the design industry. That’s why only students (officially registered at an educational institution, bachelor or master degree) can apply for an internship. Unfortunately, due to legal restrictions, we can only accept internship applications from students from within the EU.

Generally, we do not offer ‘off the shelf’ graduation projects. However, we’re always open to learn about any brilliant ideas.
